how is dwarfism diagnosed?

Dwarfism is diagnosed when a person is characterized as being shorter than 4 feet and 10 inches. Doctors can also diagnose a person with dwarfism by looking at their x-rays of their bones and by noticing their failure to grow. Usually these diagnoses are made at birth, but some have bee nmade after birth. Once you have been diagnosed there is no real "cure".

what are the chances that a person can pass dwarfism on to their offspring

The chances of a person passing on the dwarf gene are different. It all depends on your genetics. If a person has the dwarfism gene and they marry a person that does not have the disorder there is a 50% chance that their offsrping will have the disorder as well. There are some other cases that may case the disorder to be passed on. It could also be passed on even if the parents dont have it, someone in their family could have it and it skipped their generation. There is also a 25% chance in some cases.

How prevelent is this Dwarfism?

Dwarfism is not very prevelent in our society today. There are many things that could cause this disorder. Some things that can cause it are your genes. For example if one of your parents has the disorder then you have a chance of getting the disorder as well. A person can also get the disorder even if their parents don't have it. Currently dwarfism affects about 1 out of every 25,000 people. The most common form of dwarfism is achondroplasia. Achondroplasia happens about once out of every 14,000 cases of dwarfism.

The genotypes of the parents?

The possible genotypes of this person's parents may be Dd or DD. Their genotypes may be this because since dwarfism is a autosomal dominant disorder their genotypes would have to be switched around so that a person with the genotype of dd would be healthy. In the dwarfism disorder the big D would carry the disorder instead of the little d.

How does a person inherit dwarfism disorder? Is it dominant or recessive? Is it genetic or chromosomal?

A person can inherit dwarfism by an autosomal dominant trait. Autosomal dominant trait means that a person could get dwarfism if one of their parents had dwarfism. However there is a study that shows about 80% of people with dwarfism got it spontaneously Dwarfism is also a genetic disorder. Being that it is a genetic disorder dwarfism is transferred from parent to child.
